has dragged on for two years, costing thousands of dollars. We are asking you to please support Jeff in any or each of the following ways:
• Keep Jeff (and all others involved in the case) in your continuing prayers--particularly the day of the hearing.
● Drop a line of encouragement or advice to Jeff. It is important that he does not feel alone in this fight.
Pass the word to friends, family, and church members. Strngth lies in numbers.

Good hometown help
To the Editors:
I am writing to thank you and your fine staff for the superb response I received to my recent request for information.
I represent a gay man who, along with his partner, seeks to gain custody of his children from an earlier marriage. While visiting Cleveland (my hometown) over the Christmas holiday I saw an article in the Chronicle which addressed the issue of children being raised by gay parents. In need of additional information on the topic to help my client, I phoned your office and spoke with Patti Harris. Patti was extremely helpful. She enthusiastically took my information request and promised that someone would be in touch. Indeed, several of

contacted by the author of the article, Mr. Michael Radice.
Mr. Radice--who, I have learned, is a licensed school psychologist with Moore and Associates--graciously provided me with informed research materials which will certainly help my client's custody lawsuit.
It's a wonderful feeling to return to my hometown, to ask for support and to receive it in such a big way. You've helped me, my client and our community at large. Thank you so much.

Barroom philosophy?
To the Editors:

Please refer to the Hate Crime Update, published in the February 19 Gay People's Chronicle, which, in part, reads: violence occurring, especially at. ends.'
Leg-
I trust this was appropriately investigated, corroborated with Police Department reports. Or, was this just a casual remark from one of the barroom philosophers?
Many things could be said about questionable activities at most gay bars.

The Hate Crime Update is provided to this paper by the Maryann Finegan Project of Cleveland's Lesbian-Gay Community Service Center. Everyone who is a victim of or a witness to violence is encouraged to report incidents, anonymously if necessary, to the Project. Only those incidents which have been reported are printed. General warnings of anti-gay crime are also based only on reported incidents. -Eds.
Following is the Pentagon's complete response to a letter supporting gays in the military, sent by Chronicle managing editor Kevin Beaney:
Dear Mr. Beaney:
General Powell received your letter and has asked me to respond on his behalf.
Thank you for your comments to General Powell concerning the Department of Defense policy regarding homosexuals. The Chairman greatly appreciates hearing citizens' views on all matters affecting our national security. With best wishes,
Col. James P. Terry, USMC Legal Counsel
Don't hide transgender people
To the Editors:
For months now the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. of San Francisco and numerous transgender people have been lobbying and negotiating for the inclusion of transgender issues in the 1993 March on Washington. The time has come that these demands be publicized.
"Transgender" should be included in the title of the 1993 March on Washington • Transgender people (transsexuals, transvestites and drag queens) should be included as performers, MC's and political speakers addressing transgender issues on the 1993 March on Washington.
Transgender people and our issues should be included in press conferences, press releases, publications and all cultural

events at the 1993 March on Washington. Although the Sisters' socially conscious performance art may be deemed "unacceptable" by some lesbian, gay and bisexual leaders, there exists a plethora of "acceptable" transgender speakers, MC's and performers which we pray will be included at the 1993 March On WashingThe Mother House The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence San Francisco
